4.2.2 The excitation panel

When the `add' button in the excitation section is pressed, the following pop-up screen appears.

There are three types of TM excitations supported: a point source (actually a line source in 2d), a Gaussian bundle and a plane wave. We discuss in short the properties.

• The point source
  • Current (complex): the current (in A), real ; imag.
  • Origin: position of the source
• Gaussian bundle
  • Width a focus: width of the bundle at its smallest point (the focus).
  • Position of focus: location of the focus.
  • Direction: angle between the positive x-axis and the direction of propagation
  • Strength: Intensity of the bundle real ; imag.
  • Order: Order of the gaussion bundle
• Plane wave
  • Direction (degree): angle between the positive x-axis and the direction of propagation
  • Electrical field: Intensity of the plane wave real ; imag.

Note that the excitations are not visualized in main window. Carefully review the settings before running a simulation.

In this panel, the frequency (Hz) can be specified. Also, the permittivity and permeability of the background medium can be entered here.
